Two things. First, while watching Star Trek XI again this weekend, I tripped over this bit of dialogue when Nero's torturing Pike:

"I need the subspace frequencies of Starfleet's border protection grids. Specifically those surrounding Earth."

Either this is just an excuse to do what he's gonna do already, and the grids aren't actually a barrier for him, or ... this is a major plot hole. Because you can't tell me Vulcan, being the other founding Federation planet, didn't have a grid of its own. And he can't have got the codes from Spock Prime. So did some ship-capture of Vulcans happen that we never heard about, or what? Can't believe I never noticed before.

Also. ALSO also.

Because clearly, I write for TEH FAME AND GLORYZ. *facepalm* I have no idea what 'section' ze's even talking about - most of the people who share that link around do so quite outside my knowledge or prompting. I'd never dare myself, for this exact reason.

Finishing that mofo's going to be like handling an unexploded bomb every time I check my email. Which will be, ugh, probably starting October this year.

lesser_men_saga has been much harder to write, but infinitely saner on the fan front!

Now that I'm almost done, I feel the sudden urge to tell y'all why I really picked NLB in particular of the half-dozen WIPs on my list to finish first, other than my own sheer bloody-minded desire not to be a quitter and the fact that it was the oldest. Which make for great excuses, but are only maybe half of the truth.

It's done. It's done! 3,900 words representing the next (but not, alas, the last) chapter of

backagainharry. You have no idea how many times I've rewritten this segment; I knew how it had to start, and how it had to end, but trying to keep the character voices in character--!!! (I'm quite out of love with Remus Lupin now).

I swore off LiveJournal until I got it done, but now it is, nearly a month after I promised it, so--

Anyone want to read it over for me, give critical commentary? I fear I've lost all perspective after this much editing. (Just drop me a comment, and I'll send you the sekrit link).

No, not a new chapter. Sorry. For those of you who are reading, though, I'd like a little advice. I don't have a regular beta to bounce questions off of, so.

Here's a perfect example of the small number of negative reviews I've been getting (well, aside from those guessing close to what's up with Lupin, and informing me the story will utterly fail if it's true):

What I want to know is-- are any of you seeing legitimate concerns in that unsigned mess? I have a feeling that this is someone from DLP wishing for one of those stories where Harry drops in from the future and instantly becomes wickedly clever and confident and starts dashing around lying and manipulating and fixing everything as soon as possible.

I can bounce that kind of criticism, no problem. That is exactly the kind of story I was trying to subvert by writing mine: a realistic, as far as that can be said, edition of the genre. But: are there nuggets of true problems in there? Be honest; if things really are dragging, I want to fix it.
