Hello and welcome! You have found the journal for Jedi Buttercup (also known by that name across the fic-sphere and previously on LJ since 2002, though I am not the JediButtercup on Twitter or the one on Instagram). I mostly currently use this journal for fic posting, though posts on other topics of interest or locked RL updates occasionally make an appearance.

My master fic lists are here: by B:tVS-verse or all other fandoms. They're current through 1/2/2025.

My fic is also at up at [archiveofourown.org profile] jedibuttercup, and my crossovers at Twisting the Hellmouth.
Other links: JB's Librarything | 2025 Book List (+2024) | JB's Letterboxd | 2025 Viewing List (+2024).

Feel free to drop by and leave a comment! If you're looking for my transformative works policy: you do not need to ask my permission to podfic, translate and create art for any fanwork I have posted, or write stories in my universes. Please include a link back to my work, and share the link to your work with me -- I'd love to see it! HOWEVER, please do not 'continue' or 'claim' any of my WIPs! (These are clearly tagged "Work in Progress" on AO3, and there are only four of them!)
jedibuttercup: Buffy Summers (slayer)
All fic are listed in alphabetical order. Fic NOT set in the Buffy and Angel-verse are split into a separate post, linked here; crossovers between the Buffyverse and other fandoms will show up in both.

Most links go to the story on Dreamwidth; those marked with an asterisk go to the AO3 archive.

Updated through October 10, 2024.

Jedi Buttercup's Fic )
jedibuttercup: (beware fainting fits)
T; Sense and Sensibility (1995); Elinor/Colonel Brandon, 11,400 words. Canon divergence AU.

Margaret gasped aloud. "You mean there is to be a duel? Famous."

An Unavoidable Meeting

(For [archiveofourown.org profile] chevrozn in [community profile] fffx)
jedibuttercup: Glen Powell as Tyler Owens (tyler owens)
PG-13; Twisters (2024), Kate/Javi/Tyler. Post-movie pre-relationship, 2,400 words.

It hadn't been any mystery where to find the erstwhile leader of StormPAR; all of them, Tyler's team and Kate and Javi, had been staying at the same motel the last couple of days while they breathed through the aftermath of the storm.

Don't Let Go (I've Got You)

(For [archiveofourown.org profile] merle_p in [personal profile] candyheartsex)
jedibuttercup: Daisy Edgar-Jones as Kate Carter (kate carter)
PG-13; Twisters (2024), Kate/Javi/Tyler. Post-movie silliness, 1,200 words.

It doesn't take long for the Tornado Wranglers' army of followers to start comparing notes when Kati and Javi return to their feed.

Starting my reading list for 2025! Another year of my most OCD New Year's Resolution. :)

2020 remains my high-water mark in terms of book count at 266; but in 2024 despite notching thirty fewer books I soared past it for total pagecount at 94,231 (2020 was 81,480). That's 257 pages per day. Between that and my watch list, you can definitely tell I spent more time distracting myself than usual last year. But I also got a library card for the first time since college, and completed my book club reading challenge, so I'm trying not to beat myself up over it. :)

In other stats for 2024: 53 were non-fiction this time (the highest yet); only 6 were re-reads; and 7 were graphic novels. 135 were ebooks, the rest physical, 21 of which were borrowed from the library. 12 were YA, two were books of poetry. And my work book club completed its second year and planned for a third! So, on to Year Nineteen of book tracking! I record books here as I start them, and remove them if I don't finish.

Books for 2025: 96, including 0 rereads, 27 nonfiction, 2 poetry collections, 4 ya, 49 ebooks, and 2 graphic novels. Library count: 11.

As usual, I rounded all TV episodes (however viewed) up to the nearest half-hour mark and all movies to two hours total, then added in repeats. I watched less narrative entertainment in 2024, in exchange for a massive number of documentaries, many of them on my propped-up smartphone while doing repetitive tasks. I did see seven movies in theaters: still a lot less than pre-pandemic levels, but it felt good to occasionally get out again for a meal and an experience. And then, of course, there was the Paris Olympics!

I feel like I spent a lot of time using the screen as a distraction from more boring or distressing things this last year; the totals were insane enough I almost don't want to mention them. But for posterity's sake: 1870.5 hours of on-screen entertainment (5.12 hrs/day). A lot of that might not have been actual unproductive time, but still. *wince*

Anyway, on to my eighteenth year of tracking: started off as usual with a New Year's watch party with the BFF and her husband. We'll see how it goes from here!

Well, I did sign up for [community profile] getyourwordsout again last year, and I did complete three Triple Crown stories (if not all three challenges). But motivation was lacking. It's been awhile now since I had a really prolific year. Here's crossing my fingers for 2025.

I only wrote one crossover, and only one not really for an exchange; two were slash, three were gen, five were poly, six were het, and the plots included a lot of canon divergences, fix-its, road trips, and other tropey indulgences. I did do a couple of new things, though: a tiny attempt at an in-universe document, and a fic with sibling incest. Feels a bit weird to still have frontiers yet to cross, what, twenty-three years after I first started posting fic? I guess I am a Fandom Old these days! *cracking knuckles*

On to the list of fic! )
jedibuttercup: Cover image from the Bandits (2001) movie (bandits)
PG-13; Bandits (2001), Joe/Terry/Kate. Time loop AU, 3,000 words.

It took a third time through before it finally occurred to Terry that the experience might not be either sudden-onset insanity or the last firing neurons of a dying brain desperately wishing things had played out differently.

Like One Big Sunset (Please, Just One)

(For [archiveofourown.org profile] klutzy_girl in [community profile] yuletide)
jedibuttercup: A freshly prepared margarita (margarita)
PG-13; Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, gen. Post-movie tag, 1,300 words.

Nathan hadn't travelled all the way to Qatar merely to provide a dramatic denouement for the team's mission to secure the Handle, after all.

The Best Reward

(For [archiveofourown.org profile] BookGirlFan in [community profile] yuletide)
jedibuttercup: (eclipse)
T/M; Pitch Black, Imam & Riddick, gen. Post-movie divergence, 2,200 words.

For once in his life, one of the obstacles that had plagued Riddick since he'd taken his first breath had actually given him more to lose, and hadn't even taken all of it back.

Back to All the Brightness

(For [archiveofourown.org profile] Senri in [community profile] yuletide)
jedibuttercup: Leverage OT3 screenshot (leverage ot3)
PG-13; Leverage, Eliot/Parker/Hardison. End of season 3 canon divergence, 11,400 words.

Eliot had had a lot of other things on his mind lately than untangling all the ways Parker and Hardison had been gradually creeping up on his personal space, both literally and metaphorically. Even kudzu wouldn't thrive if it didn't get watered, right? ... Right.

Lessons in Acceptance

(For [archiveofourown.org profile] Brachylagus_fandom in [community profile] ficinabox)
jedibuttercup: (are you serious)
PG-13; Leverage, Hardison & Parker & Eliot. In-universe document, 200 words.

Every small business needs an employee handbook, right? Yeah, they might need to hire an HR firm after the prologue gave them this much trouble....

Bridgeport Brewing Company Handbook Fragment

(For [archiveofourown.org profile] Brachylagus_fandom in [community profile] ficinabox)
jedibuttercup: Leverage OT3 screenshot (leverage ot3)
PG-13; Leverage, Eliot/Parker/Hardison. Soulmate/soulmark AU, 300 words.

It wasn't just their memories of trying to steal the dagger of Aqu'Abi that had been hit by the Rashomon Effect. Somewhere in all of that, they'd spoken their first words to each other, too.

I'm Sorry, What Did You Say Again?

(For [archiveofourown.org profile] ziazippy5379 in [community profile] seasonsofdrabbles)
jedibuttercup: Rose Leslie as Chloe in The Last Witch Hunter (chloe)
PG-13; The Last Witch Hunter, pre-Kaulder/Chloe. Canon divergence AU, 3 x 300 words.

Kaulder wasn't sure what made him pause to give the young witch he'd intercepted a second look.

and all manner of thing shall be well

(For [archiveofourown.org profile] reeby10 in [community profile] seasonsofdrabbles)
jedibuttercup: (ardeth bey)
PG-13; Mummy (1999); Rick/Evy & pre-Rick/Evy/Ardeth. Post-first-movie AU, 1,200 words.

Yeah, this was going to be an adventure all right. Rick turned his and Evy's camel to follow Ardeth without a second thought.

Smashing Day for the Start of Another Adventure

(For [archiveofourown.org profile] Zilentdreamer in [community profile] trickortreatex)
jedibuttercup: Hunger Games Mockingjay symbol (mockingjay)
PG-13; Hunger Games (books); Katniss/Haymitch. Post-canon AU, 2,200 words.

Haymitch made a face, turning the bottle for a glance at the label, then shrugged and poured them both another glass. "To absent friends."

Strange Things Did Happen Here

(For [archiveofourown.org profile] OctoberStateOfMind in [community profile] trickortreatex)
jedibuttercup: Keanu Reeves as John Wick (john wick)
PG-13; John Wick 4; John Wick/Mr. Nobody. Post-canon AU, 2,900 words.

It had made for a dramatic scene, the great John Wick going out on top: glimpsing one last sunrise from the steps of Sacré-Cœur, then slumping over, the very last body ever dropped in his name his own. The man who called himself Nobody hadn't bought it, of course.

Pax Iohannis

(For [archiveofourown.org profile] firecat in [community profile] rarepairexchange)
jedibuttercup: Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley (ellen ripley)
PG; Alien (1979); Ellen Ripley & Jones the Cat. Divergence AU, 5,100 words.

There was, of course, a set of official procedures to go with the tradition of introducing a new ship's cat-- which had obviously not been written by anyone who'd ever been adopted by a feline of their own.
