jedibuttercup: Samara Weaving as Grace Le Domas in her wedding dress (ready or not)
Title: I With Thee Have Fixed My Lot
Author: [personal profile] jedibuttercup
Fandom: Ready or Not (2019)
Rating: M; Grace/Daniel, past Grace/Alex
Warnings/Notes: For the 2024 [community profile] iddyiddybangbang. Begun for a NYR request for [archiveofourown.org profile] Othalla, finished for Iddy Iddy Bang Bang 2024. (In which Grace knew what she was getting into with the Le Domases, and she's come to ruin them.) Titled from a line in Paradise Lost.

Summary: Forget justice for Uncle Charlie; Grace was furious enough now to want justice for herself, and every other Le Domas spouse betrayed to their deaths over the years. If she could somehow choose to exempt any of them from whatever justice fucking up their ritual would deliver, Alex would not be that one. (Daniel, though; he was another story entirely.) 14,800 words

R; Mission Impossible; Ethan Hunt/Ilsa Faust/William Brandt, 10,600 words. Fix-it.

Ethan, some part of Ilsa was convinced, would always find them. A strangely reassuring certainty, in a world where the boundaries had grown so difficult to discern.

Nothing could have appealed to Nyah more in that moment.

In 2023, as in 2022, I had three goals: sign up for [community profile] getyourwordsout again, complete the Triple Crown, and clear off some more of those old request lists and WIPs.

Well, I sort of succeeded? Even if my wordcount went down by quite a bit. There were a few reasons for that, including RL busy-ness and Twisting the Hellmouth deciding to move the August crossover challenge off Livejournal to an inconvenient message board; but also, several of my exchange recipients did not respond to the fic I had written for them. (I love all the rest of you who read and comment, but when I'm writing for somebody specific, getting radio silence from them, for whatever reason, always lets the air out of my balloon a little). I did, however, fill a twelve-year-old prompt off a request list, and revisit some old series that had been languishing for awhile. Still no BAH update; but that thing's kind of a white whale at this point, I'm going to have to clear months off my writing schedule when I finally gird myself to tackle it, I think.

Goals for 2024: Once again, I'm going to sign up for [community profile] getyourwordsout, complete the exchange Triple Crown, and maybe avoid signing up for quite so many littler exchanges in order to clear time for those lingering WIPs!

On to the list of fic! )
jedibuttercup: A view of the castle of Camelot (camelot)
PG; King Arthur: Legend of the Sword; Arthur & The Mage, 1,600 words. Missing scene.

The chilly air tasted of dust and lightning strikes and the faint iron tang of blood, and there were still all too many questions lingering unanswered.

Henry Crawford was perhaps not already so reformed as to pass up a tempting invitation in favour of a distant duty; but Fanny Price's influence over him had already left such a mark as to alter the course of events exceedingly.

As usual, I rounded all TV episodes (whether live or DVD) up to the nearest half-hour mark and all movies to two hours total, then added in repeats. I saw only four movies in theater during 2023; at home, I indulged in a lot of reality TV, streaming, and comfort rewatches (many of them for my 'I own it, but I haven't seen it since I started logging; should I still keep it?' project).

I also dove head-first into documentaries and Reel Rock, which probably influenced the year's total significantly - it came to 1055.5 total hours of on-screen entertainment (2.89 hrs/day), a definite jump from 2022's 940 hours (2.58 hrs/day).

Historically, since I started tracking, my average ranged between 1.62 hours/day and 2.52 hours/day until 2020, but roughly two hours/day was the sweet spot. It's fluctuated higher since, though not as dramatically as my book count; I'm not predicting this year will be any different, given it's another Olympics year!

Starting my reading list for 2024! Getting close to two decades of my most OCD New Year's Resolution. :)

2020 remains my high-water mark in terms of book count at 266; in 2023 I read 240, but on average they were longer, so the total page count was still 81,091 (2020 was 81,480). That's 221 pages per day. Given that this was the fourth year of such high book counts, and that the boost coincides with the length of time I've owned a Kindle and worked at least part of the week from home, I think the change is probably permanent!

In other stats: 48 were non-fiction this time (highest yet); only 5 were re-reads; and 10 were graphic novels. 154 were ebooks, the rest physical. 9 were YA, two were books of poetry. It was also the first year of my work's new book club; we chose to follow Book Riot's 2023 Read Harder Challenge, and I completed 23 of the 24 challenges (the last was for an audio book, which are difficult for me). It'll be interesting to see what we do this year!

So, on to Year Eighteen of book tracking!

Book stats through 236 include 6 rereads, 53 nonfiction, 2 poetry, 12 ya, 135 ebooks, and 7 graphic novels: 21 from the library.

Waking up was the most disorienting experience of his life. Of course, that wasn't saying much, since at the moment it was the only experience of his life that he could recall.

In hindsight, Ray Breslin should have known something was up the minute the familiar words 'your work is a gold-standard in the field' had left the mouth of Manheim's daughter. Not that he'd realized she was Manheim's daughter at the time.

Fandom: Fast Five / Fast & the Furious Movies
Rating: M; Brian/Dom
Warnings/Notes: For the 2023 [community profile] iddyiddybangbang. Indulging myself all over the place again with my Mutants AU 'verse, because what else is this challenge for? Set during Fast Five, but includes a few pieces of information revealed later in the series, particularly The Fast Saga and Fast X, because they just fit in so well with where this universe is heading.
