Two things. First, while watching Star Trek XI again this weekend, I tripped over this bit of dialogue when Nero's torturing Pike:
"I need the subspace frequencies of Starfleet's border protection grids. Specifically those surrounding Earth."
Either this is just an excuse to do what he's gonna do already, and the grids aren't actually a barrier for him, or ... this is a major plot hole. Because you can't tell me Vulcan, being the other founding Federation planet, didn't have a grid of its own. And he can't have got the codes from Spock Prime. So did some ship-capture of Vulcans happen that we never heard about, or what? Can't believe I never noticed before.
Also. ALSO also.
backagainharry is the story that just continues to give and give on the crazy fan front.
My most recent review, on the Pit of Voles:
Because clearly, I write for TEH FAME AND GLORYZ. *facepalm* I have no idea what 'section' ze's even talking about - most of the people who share that link around do so quite outside my knowledge or prompting. I'd never dare myself, for this exact reason.
Finishing that mofo's going to be like handling an unexploded bomb every time I check my email. Which will be, ugh, probably starting October this year.
lesser_men_saga has been much harder to write, but infinitely saner on the fan front!

My most recent review, on the Pit of Voles:
Why did this get put into the manipulative dumb door section? I feel mislead sadly but I guess it earned you your following potter brats.
Remember fame and glory does not follow death and that's where true judging of you comes weather you get reborn again into a higher/lower human life form or you go directly to heaven/hell because you can't accomplish any more in this level.
You can't take fame with you to the dead world and will mean naught and may even actually effect your judging for the worst.

I'm so sorry, that's awful. How dare they make your life more stressful! Grrrrrrr.
Which will be, ugh, probably starting October this year.
Oh good, I'm looking forward to it.

What the ever loving Frell?!
Date: 2015-08-12 01:13 pm (UTC)Please delete and ignore these lunatic rants whenever you receive one and by no means allow these loons to dampen your enthusiasm for writing or dissuade you from following your muse, wherever a story leads you. In all honesty, you are one of the best authors out there, published or not, and it would be a true shame if these nutcases actually affected your writing.

Date: 2015-08-14 11:47 pm (UTC)It's pretty rare that I let fandom opinion affect me; the last time it happened before "Back Again, Harry?" was back in '06 or so when I had two nearly back-to-back bad experiences in Firefly fandom on LJ and it nearly put me off writing in the fandom for good. That was either maliciousness or ignorance on the part of just a couple of people, though; the BAH thing was just being slapped in the face with a particular segment of fans I'd never encountered before. I used to be lucky to get a handful of reviews per story, and they were largely positive; the sudden flood of critical, ignorant, and often insulting reviews on BAH was very much a !!!!!!! experience.
I'm a little older and a little wiser now, though, and much more settled in myself now that I've passed my first decade as a fanwriter, though. Kaiidth, right? Damn the torpedoes and full speed ahead. :)

Date: 2015-08-13 05:00 pm (UTC)Please ignore those people, who clearly have a more than somewhat skewed sense of reality, and write what you want to write. I have yet to read anything of yours that is anything less than good (if not awesome!).
I am considering rereading "Back again, Harry?" and really would love to see it continued but please do not let the crazy people make you miserable, even if that means that you have to leave the story unfinished.

Date: 2015-08-14 11:50 pm (UTC)I did let the crazy people make me miserable for awhile; that's why it's been a few years since the last update, and there was a large gap before that one, too. But I'm over it, now. I know what I'm going to write, and I'm not going to let a group of idiot readers with narrow opinions on the canon assert their privilege on me anymore.
