jedibuttercup: (river/mal)
The [livejournal.com profile] not_primetime collection is now open for reading! (It's the summer mid-size fandom version of Yuletide, with maybe a tenth the participation).

Written for me, both by so-far-Anon, two delightful fic starring two of my oldest OTPs:
* A River Dances Through It (Firefly; post-series; River/Mal)
* Interesting (Angel; post-series; Wes/Illyria)

I encourage reading them, and sampling elsewhere in the archive; there are a lot of gems in there!

... In other news, I apparently won a few awards in Round 29 of the Sunnydale Memorial Fanfiction Awards; as always, I hugely appreciate these nominations and votes! It helps me remember that my stuff does put smiles on other people's faces when I'm busy being impatient about some of my more obscure stuff getting little attention. :)

* Handle With Care - Best Book Crossover, Best Book Crossover Pairing
* Canceling the Apocalypse - Best Movie Crossover (Runner Up)
* Best Job Share Ever? - Best Movie Crossover Pairing
* Veritas Vos Liberabit - Best Movie Crossover Pairing (Runner Up)
* Grave Survivors - Best TV Crossover Pairing (Runner Up)
jedibuttercup: (coffee plz)
I've been so tired lately; between coming back from vacay and the days getting shorter my schedule's been way off. One of these days, I'll catch up. After Yuletide, maybe?

Anyway, it was brought to my attention recently (thanks-- and congrats, [livejournal.com profile] aadler)-- that I picked up a win and a runner-up in Round 8 of [livejournal.com profile] wicked_awards! Thank you to everyone who voted for me, and kudos to all of the other winners!

Devil You Know Award     Partners In Crime Award: Runner Up

I've also received some nominations in Round 27 of the Sunnydale Memorial Fanfic Awards:

* Things We Trade For Freedom - Best Crossover TV, Best Crossover TV Pairing
* Daughters of Charon - Best Crossover Movie, Best Crossover Movie Pairing

Thanks to my readers, and voters, for the warm fuzzies! Now this is the sort of voting that I don't mind sharing. \0/
jedibuttercup: (onceupon)
The [livejournal.com profile] not_primetime collection is now open for reading! (If you missed the ads this spring, it's sort of a summer mid-size fandom version of Yuletide, only much less populated; most of the stories have <30 hits as yet, so I encourage checking it out!)

Written for me: As on a Darkling Plain by so-far-Anonymous, in the Once Upon a Time fandom. It's rated G-ish, with Emma Swan/Mr. Gold, and is everything I wanted to see on-screen during the season and absolutely knew I wouldn't. If you're in the fandom, it's more than worth a read! Fabulously written.

... In other news, whoever nominated me at [livejournal.com profile] kinda_gay_award for Voices of Thunder? Made my day, too. That's another of those way, way niche stories I wrote for myself that it warms my heart to know people actually appreciate.
jedibuttercup: (omg Kaylee)
Results have been announced for Round 26 of the Sunnydale Memorial Fanfiction Awards; thanks to everyone who submitted one for me!

It's always fabulous to see this kind of appreciation, particularly for my more niche Buffy crossovers that don't collect as many actual reviews as the stuff I write in trendier fandoms. *loves you all*

Best Movie Crossover Pairing, and two Runners Up: )
jedibuttercup: (scoobies together)
I have run across at least three fics in the last week that used the word "palette" (a thin oval or rectangular board or tablet that a painter holds and mixes pigments on) when they should have said "palate" (the roof of the mouth in humans and other mammals/the sense of taste). As in, using one's tongue to map another's palette, or not having the palette for a particular wine, both of which errors give me really, really amusing mental images. *snerk*

Also! I've been nominated in Round 26 of the Sunnydale Memorial Fanfiction Awards! I don't know where these noms are all coming from, lately, but I love my f'list anyway. *hugs all* This time, I'm up for:

Best Crossover (Movie): Like Mayonnaise and Miracle Whip (B:tVS/Jurassic Park)
Best Crossover (Movie) Pairing: Like Mayonnaise and Miracle Whip (Buffy Summers/Alan Grant)
Best Crossover (TV): Temporal Malfunctions (B:tVS/Star Trek:TOS)
Best Pairing (Unconventional): One, and One, and Two Together (Buffy Summers/Wesley Wyndam-Pryce)
Best Slash: Weep Not For The Past (Willow/Kennedy)
Best Gen Fic: Demon's Holiday (Rupert Giles, The Cheeseman)
jedibuttercup: David Giuntoli as Nick Burkhardt (nick burkhardt)
You know, I think I just realized where my irrational fascination with Nick and Renard's interactions on the Grimm TV show, and to a lesser extent, Reese and Elias on Person of Interest, is coming from? It's simple. Grimm's an example of what it might have been like, had Harry Dresden met John Marcone while the former was new to his supernatural power and the latter already a Baron under the Accords. And POI? If Harry were already his spirtually scarred late-book-series self when Marcone was in the middle of establishing his power over the Chicago mob. *blinks thoughtfully*

...In less geeky news, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] aadler, I know now two of my stories found favor in Round 7 of [livejournal.com profile] wicked_awards! It's like a belated birthday present. Thanks to those of you who voted, and many gratz to the other winners!

Judges Choice Award   Heart of Gold Award: Runner Up
jedibuttercup: (buffy and daniel)
I'm a little behind the times in noticing, but: thank you bunches to everyone who voted in Round 25 of the Sunnydale Memorial Fanfiction Awards!

Thanks to y'all, I won Best Author (which I never would have expected):

Best Author

... and three others, in the TV Crossover, Quick Fic, and Book Crossover categories. )

*dances* This perks up my week enormously.
jedibuttercup: (coffee plz)
First piece of business: I still have two available slots in my 24 Days of Ficmas 2011 Wishlist. Fill 'em up, folks. Y'all are all crazy, but I'm going to have so much fun writing!

Speaking of which: I now have my [livejournal.com profile] xover_exchange assignment. And similar to last year, there's not a word I can say about it here, for obvious reasons. *evil grin*

To round off the fandom trio of awesome this drowsy Monday morning: I have been nominated in Round 25 of The Sunnydale Memorial Fanfiction Awards. I'm up for:

* Best Author
* Best Angst for The Five Stages of Grief
* Best Book Crossover for Mansfield Slayer
* Best TV Crossover for The Grail Prophecies
* Best TV Crossover Pairing for Buffy/Daniel in The Grail Prophecies
* Best Movie Crossover for Like Mayonnaise and Miracle Whip
* Best Movie Crossover Pairing for Buffy/Alan Grant in Like Mayonnaise and Miracle Whip
* Best Gen fic for Demon's Holiday
* Best OC for Officer George Albert Herrington in my Lesser Men saga
* Best Unconventional Pairing for Buffy/Wesley in Watching Buffy
* Best Plot for the Lesser Men saga
* Best Quickie Fic for Something New

I am really, really flattered, guys; whoever put me up for all these, you made my morning!
jedibuttercup: Buffy Summers (lm - slayer)
Been too busy to write the last week or so. Been busy, period: work stuff, new nephew stuff, birthday parties to attend, yadda. And also, idiotically, exercised after eleven p.m. more than once in the last week. (That is a recipe for stiffness and soreness all the next day, I have discovered.)

Have been reading, though, and being read; I appreciate the reviews -- and the awards!! Thank you, very much, to those who voted for me in Round 24 of the Sunnydale Memorial Fanfiction Awards!

1 Winner, and 1 Runner Up Behind Cut )

Also: a bit of venting. Someone 'reviewed' today at FF.N to tell me they liked [livejournal.com profile] backagainharry, they noticed it had been awhile since an update, and they wanted an email back to confirm they could adopt it. Um? STABBITY OMFG. I never mind people borrowing bits of my ideas; I encourage it, in fact. Plus, you know, the attention that particular story gets compared to the rest of my oeuvre always kind of unnerves me. But. To ask to take the story itself? Who does that, especially with such a cheery assurance I'd agree? My profile should make it pretty damn clear that (a) I'm still writing, lots in fact; and (b) that story isn't abandoned; I'm just slow. Hell to the no. *bristles defensively*

Nom Nom Nom

First, since the AO3 subscription meme is going round:

You can find me at faviconjedibuttercup (log in to see the subscribe button) and fandoms in my immediate queue include....

... Well, you know me. Anything might, and probably will, show up. But given my current requests lists, Buffy and/or Stargate fic and crossovers are going to feature heavily for awhile.

In other news, thanks to whomever nominated Disposable Heroes (for best B:tVS/Book xover) and Witty Jack (in best B:tVS/Movie xover and pairing) at the SunnyD Awards. I'm very grateful for the appreciation!
jedibuttercup: (shiny)
TtH CoA nominations have continued to slowly trickle in. I'm up for a decent handful, now; thank you to everyone who thought of me. You're the (collective) bomb.

I was also nominated in the latest round of the SunnyD awards this year; and that one was a total surprise. \0/ There weren't enough nominations in my category to actually hold a vote, though, so it'll carry over until the next round. Still:

2010 SunnyD Awards NomineeThe nom was for The Heroine and the Half Shell, my BtVS/TMNT, Buffy/Raphael crossover.

Thanks to whomever put my name in the basket. ♥♥ You made my day.
jedibuttercup: (never look back)
If you haven't made your nominations in the 2010 Crossing Over Awards at Twisting the Hellmouth yet, be aware that the process closes sometime tomorrow! (I'm going to have to make mine after I get back from the concert tonight; I keep forgetting.)

So far this year, I've only received nominations in TWO categories; quite a ways down from my high last year of twenty-plus. But then again, they've cut several of my best, such as the Fred/Illyria and Wesley categories (the latter of which I won three years running), and lumped them under "Other". Ah, well. The fortunes of fannish taste come and go. Good luck to everyone else with eligible stories!

There's a couple of LJ polls with my name in them going on at the moment:

1) The [livejournal.com profile] c2c_buffyawards

I'm up for "Best Five Things" in the Non-Spuffy/Gen categories, for my post-NFA Illyria & Wes story, "Moving On". It's in third at the moment; voting's open 'til the 30th, but you have to join the comm.

The voting post is here:
http://community.livejournal.com/c2c_buffyawards/3316.html

2) The Finishathon at [livejournal.com profile] multific

Once again, I'm participating in the Finishathon. I've put five plot bunnies up for a vote, most of them old WIPs, and y'all get to tell me which one to add 7,000 words to. Two things to note: unless you're also participating, only check one box, and if you go through the rest of the voting posts (please do) some don't allow votes from non-participants.

That said, the voting post is here:

Thank you for your click! ♥

I seem to spend a lot of time making people talk to each other, or themselves, in my fics rather than throwing themselves into action. Does that get boring? I worry about it sometimes.

I haven't said much about my non-fic life lately, I know. It's been more of the same, mostly, with a few shining interludes. My health is good: haven't gained any weight back since last year, and have managed to keep the exercise going. My reading quota is better: 46 books this year already. I attended CON-Con (the Leverage convention) in March, and the local Jim Butcher book signing a week and a half ago with [livejournal.com profile] maevebran, [livejournal.com profile] sulien77, and [livejournal.com profile] little_lusty. (I still haven't read Changes, but I'm looking forward to it).

Next week, I go to the Microsoft Conference in Georgia; and about 24 hours after I fly back from that, I fly back out again to visit my brother in Mississippi for a week and a half. It'll be good to take a break from real life for awhile; I love my life these days, but it's so busy I 've had a hard time finding the energy to get much writing done. *cracks knuckles* At least I have today and tomorrow free. Then I've got to get some heavy-duty cleaning and packing done.

For those of you who follow fic awards, I've been nominated in the "Five Things" category at the [livejournal.com profile] c2c_buffyawards, for my Illyria/Wes post-series-finale fic Moving On. \0/ It's one of my own favorite things I've ever written; I'm extremely thankful to whichever of you put my name in.

Off to Wal-Mart now; the last time I bought shorts was in the middle of my transition from size 18 to 4, and I'm going to need some for beach bumming in two weeks. I think I'll wait to buy a new swimsuit until I'm actually down there, though; the selection up here in the Pacific NorthWest is kind of dismal in my preferred price range. TTFN. I should have something in the SG-1/PJO range for you later... more conversational crossover trailbreaking, I fear. *lol*
~
jedibuttercup: (diva)
Holy [insert profanity here]. Did you see what fanfiction.net has done now? Did you see? Crossover support! I'm torn between terror and awe.

... wait. OMG, I'm going to have to reclassify almost everything. Do you know how many crossover stories I have there? *begins clicking feverishly*

... In other news, I found 16 geocaches this weekend, managed to fit back into a pair of size 14 jeans, and attended a bridal party "work day" for my brother's fiancée. Not to mention:

the Conclusion of the Horrible Awards... )

*yawn* Now, to see what else I've missed on LJ this weekend...
~
jedibuttercup: (pryce)
There is something strange and amusing, I think, about an American girl from suburbia winning the "Best Portrayal of Wesley" award three years in a row.

I won a total of three awards in the 2008 Crossover Awards-- also just like both years before. Other than Wesley, though, they aren't repeats: this time I picked up "Best Miscellaneous Crossover" and "Best Ficlet Collection".

Banners and Links Behind the Cut: )

These awards always end up a strange mix of actual good writing and popularity competition; but that doesn't stop me from being thrilled to win any awards at all. Thank you to each and every one of you who voted for one of my stories! *blows kisses to f-list*
~
jedibuttercup: Faith Lehane (lm - faith)
I'm not sure I like this Round 1/Round 2 voting business at the Crossover Awards. I think I'd rather get all of my disappointment (and hopefully a bit of elation) over with in one go, rather than "I didn't make the Top 5 cut in that category? But I did in that one? WTF?" and then still have to wait another however many days for results!

So, of the 19 up for y'all's votes, I lost six and kept thirteen: )

I understand about the ones I lost (except for the fact that-- damn, "Love, After" really got dissed. Ah, well). On some of the others, though, I've got to say-- I was a bit surprised they all survived. For example, how the hell did my Faith fic stay in over Ava's? And some of the rest of you got seriously shorted, too. I was kind of shocked at all the excellent writing that didn't make it; I'm going to have to re-vote in nearly half the categories.
~
jedibuttercup: Buffy Summers (lm - slayer)
If you have a Twisting the Hellmouth account, and you haven't voted in the Crossover Awards yet, please do! Several of the top categories are apparently very close at this point, and the first round of voting closes Wednesday.

I'm up for twenty-one this year, on 15 fics, as follows; I won't beg you to vote for me, because there are fics I admire more than my own up as well, but bless you, bless you if you do! I'm always amazed at the reaction I get at awards time on this site, considering how niche most of my crossovers are.

Jedibuttercup's Crossover Award Nominations )

Last year I won three, and the year before I won three, but I'm only expecting maybe one or two awards this year; I have some pretty serious competition in most of those categories. Regardless, every vote I get (and every nom I had, I love you guys!) is a treasure. I don't mention feedback often, because I don't want to come off as a review whore, but every single piece of affirmation I get totally makes my day, every time.
~
jedibuttercup: (evil genius)
I'm in Portland today for software training. Getting here was no fun-- I really, really dislike city traffic, and it was a good hour and forty-five minute drive-- but the class itself is small, not that arduous, and they're feeding us, which is always a plus.

... I keep forgetting to mention this, but I've been nominated at the Crossing Over Awards over at Twisting the Hellmouth; I have twenty nominations, I think, but I keep forgetting to sit down and list them all out. I'll have to do that later; the first round of voting runs until the 21st.

I've also been nominated at the Horrible Awards for In Memory of Penny Lesse:

More from me later tonight, I think. I have a fic or two almost ready to post, I just haven't had enough time to sit down and edit them given everything else going on lately. Oh! And I should do a pre-Birthday-Event challenge over at the drabble comm...
~
jedibuttercup: (made of awesome)
So, another graphic for my Fic-Related Gallery:

That's it for the [livejournal.com profile] eureka_tag fics this year, for those of you who aren't fans. Now, back to the regular diet of crossovers (and Back Again Harry)....
