So, I've been working on a B:tVS/Falling Skies crossover 'verse in pieces during the August fic-a-day challenge over at

twistedshorts. Y'all haven't seen any of it here, however, mostly because I intend to stitch it all together in one big post when the month is up. It's all Buffy POV, so I think it won't be too jarring; I did the same thing with the Buffy/DOOM story I wrote in bits for the 2006 challenge, and ended up with a 10K story.

Anyway. I had a wild hair today, and created my second ever fanart to go with it (well, third, if you count the crappy hand-drawn one, but second computer-generated) all pulled from TNT posters and IMDB images:

What do you think? Worthy of being included in the story post? I'm really new at this Photoshop thing.

It's well done -- it looks like a poster for a movie. The gaze of the young woman bottom right draws the gaze into the piece. The gaze of the three figures on the dock make us gawk at the big Mecha thing in the sky.

Thank you, I appreciate hearing that! A big chunk of the poster effect is TNT's doing; the advertisements were much prettier than the show. =)

It took me awhile to find a pic of SMG (bottom right) with short, dark hair, but considering this is supposed to be post-apocalyptic America, I didn't think Buffy would be dyeing or visiting a stylist anymore!

I wouldn't mind it. Um, as long as it's not "pack your toys and go home", heh. Or, "why did you cut off Iyari Limon's legs and not show any of SMG's body", because that's a limitation of the pics I grabbed and I'm not brave enough to try matching heads and bodies that didn't originally go together, yet. =)

If it is a distraction, though, I could look for better pictures next time...?

No, that's not a distraction.

I like it, don't worry.

The main thing that bothers me is that... even though the divide between the top part and the bottom part is nice and dramatic, it also gives the image as a whole a lack of unity. I'm not entirely sure what to do to fix it. A few different things I'd try:

1. Remove the girl with her hands on her hips altogether - her position emphasizes the idea that the top part and the bottom part are disjoint.
2. Move the girl with her hands on her hips down so that she starts at the bottom and overlaps both parts. That may or may not work.
3. Put a border around the whole thing.

Hmm. I did want Kennedy in the image, so probably not #1. I may try #2 on Monday; I don't have access to Photoshop at home, only in the office.

I could try out #3 with just access to Paint, though. How's this:

*sigh* I think you were right about taking Kennedy out. She is distracting where she is, but if I move her down the red highlighting in her hair from the background of the image I stole her from stands out really bizarrely against the riverbank. So. See below for the final, and for the Kennedy-moved options:

The first one there is definitely the best.

If you could do something about Kennedy's hair, she wouldn't look so pasted-on, but even so, I think it looks better without her there, because her presence makes the bottom of the image look crowded.

The Buffy-face looks good where she is, for a few different reasons:
* her position is part of the diagonal made by the writing
* her hair colour blends in with the river bank
* her skin tone matches the the lighting of the image; the lighting on Kennedy is more red-orange, while the skin tone of Buffy goes better with the pinks in the sky. I know the problems with Kennedy are just the misfortune of not being able to find a good matching picture of Kennedy, but sometimes one just has to cut one's losses.

So YAY for the final version. 8-)

Yay! I'm not skilled or patient enough to mess with the cool/warm color spectrum to that degree; and really, it isn't the best image anyway. Maybe after Iyari Limon's been in a few more things I can do another poster.

The Buffy one, though; I was stoked to find a pic of her with short-looking brown hair, because full-on blonde was not going to work in a post-apocalyptic scenario. I'm glad it works overall. =)

Did you notice I snuck Andrew into the final image, though, to make up for losing Kennedy? I was sneaky with him; I was lucky enough to find a full-length image of Tom Lenk to shrink into there!
