It's been a long time since I've reread some of these; I was glad for the excuse to go back through them. *grin*

Of tattoos and partings.
My first Yuletide gift! A neat little family-centric story: the tale of their Veritas and Aequitas tattoos.

Night Before Dawn by Suaine — Live Free and Die Hard; John McClane
Five nights of John McClane.
I hit the default list in 2007, but ended up with excellent fic anyway! This one's about John McClane and his relationships both with mortality, and with other people. Features Lucy, and Matt/John at the end.
Portends for a Rainy Day by Kantarya — The Dresden Files (novels); Harry & Lash
Some days, even the forces of evil need some time off, or so Harry tries to convince Lasciel.
The books show us some of Harry's absolute worst days ever; it was nice to get a clip from a regular day, when things weren't so dire. Great Harry voice, and fun dialogue.
Of the Ring of Air by Sealgirl — The Silmarillion; Elrond & Gil-Galad
The Ring Of Air is given to a new Guardian.
This particular era of LOTR history has always fascinated me; I was thrilled to receive a treatlet for it.

Good for the Soul by binz — The Dresden Files; Harry Dresden & John Marcone pre-slash
Harry Dresden; John Marcone; some things are just good for the soul.
My prompts hit the pitch-hist list again this year; and yet again, my last-minute writer did an excellent job. Fabulous Harry characterization, post-Small Favor, snarking and being taken care of a bit by John Marcone.
Things That Go Bump by Truth — Th13rteen Ghosts (2001); Dennis Rafkin
Sometimes the thing that changes your life is also the thing that ends it.
For the third year running, my number of fics received matched my fics written. Serendipity! This treat features Dennis surviving, changing, and growing up: what I really wanted from the ending of the movie, not the family-centric conclusion we got instead.

Riding Along by Perkyandproud — War God's Own (novels); Bahzell & Walsharno
Just a conversation between a man and his horse...or rather a Hradani and his Courser!
I always appreciate it when I get fic for my more obscure fandom choices. I have a huge soft spot for Bahzell Bahnakson, and my writer captured the characters' voices very well.

The Man Who Knew What He Wanted — Tin Man (2007); Zero
A retrospective. Zero knew what the O.Z. was supposed to be like..
Does an excellent job getting into Zero's head right after the miniseries, lending depth and realism to the motivations of what was presented as a rather 2D bad-guy character on screen. I loved it, right down to the ambiguous ending.
The Truth of Reality by YappiChick — Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2010); Dastan/Tamina
His father turned to Dastan. “How are you holding up, my son? I know Nazim’s betrayal must be affecting you greatly.”
A collection of family moments with Prince Dastan (and a Tamina moment!) in the aftermath of the movie. Made me smile!
Waiting by mari4242 — The Dresden Files (novels); Charity Carpenter
Danger is hardest on those who watch and wait in the night hours.
A fabulous short introspective piece from Charity Carpenter's POV during "Changes". An interlude in the life of one of those who also serve, as she thinks on her husband's supernatural career, and her daughter's.

A Taste of Home by swtalmnd — Eureka; Jack Carter/Henry Deacon
Another day in Eureka, another near-disaster. Set in the middle of Season 3. Episode-like, but with more porn.
Wonderful characterization, they all sounded just right, it had the wacky science, wonderful detail touches, Fargo got to push the button, and yay for hot, fun first times! I think this holds the record for the longest Yulefic I've ever received.
Five Endings, Five Beginnings by DaisyNinjaGirl — The Princess of Flames - Ru Emerson; Elfrid/Baldyron, Rolend/Juseppa, Fialla/Gespry
Some things that might have happened after, in The Princess of Flames.
Beautiful. I loved the choices of POV, and the fates laid out for them. Very true to the characters - I might have just closed the book again - and descriptive language. I thought I'd never see fic for this fandom! I was very thrilled to be treated for it.

Where There's Life by astralis — Falling Skies; Anne Glass
Anne survives the alien attacks, and keeps surviving.
My pinch hitter took this request and ran with it, giving me fabulous Anne Glass backstory for the Falling Skies series, with incidental bonus backstory for Karen as well. I completely believed every word, and it ended on a perfect note.
with coffee spoons by zihna — Person of Interest; Joss Carter & Lionel Fusco
Or, five times Carter and Fusco shared coffee..
A delightful little treat featuring Detectives Carter and Fusco building their partnership, framed around stakeouts and cups of coffee and conversational faux pas and commiserating about Finch & Reese. Could totally have been canon.
Same Numbers, New Rules by Untherius — Safe (2012)/Emberverse; Luke & Mei
Luke and Mei have settled into their new life in Washington State...but it's nothing remotely close to what either of them envisioned when they'd left New York.
Yes, this is what it looks like: an unrequested crossover written by the Yuletide-infamous Untherius. *grin* A good one, though! The characters still came through as themselves in their altered setting, and he knows I like the books; so, it worked for me.

Voila by Haywire — Now You See Me (2013); Alma Dray/Dylan Rhodes
After the events of the film, Alma and Dylan decide to continue their long distance relationship.
A heartwarming continuation of the first movie. It was nice to see what it could be like if they made a life together. I liked that she kept practicing tricks to show him; it tied well into the ending.

History of Bleeding by beedekka — Bullet to the Head (2012); James 'Bobo' Bonomo & Lisa Bonomo/Taylor Kwon
Contrary to what people might say about him, Jimmy does have a conscience. She's called Lisa.
I asked for a story about fathers and daughters that year because I had feels on the subject, for obvious reasons. And my Yuletide Author delivered in spades! Gritty just like the movie, but thoughtful and very well written and made me smile, if a little mistily.

Too Many Cooks by Angie13 — Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013); Hansel & Gretel
Gretel is having none of your gender-assigned-duties B.S., thank you very much.
Just the sort of thing I was looking for with my request that year; warm little day in the life moments and great characterization. I particularly appreciated how the author dealt with the "sugar sickness", which had felt like a bit of an anachronism in the movie.
Into Every Hunter's Life, A Little Snow Must Fall by Untherius — Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013); Hansel & Gretel
The life of any Witch Hunter consists of long periods of boredom interspersed with short periods of terror.
A lovely level of detail, something Untherius actually does really well. I really felt in the moment with Hansel, very embedded in time and place.
Overall, I've really been blessed, I think: some fic I've received have been more exciting than others, but there's never been any coal in my stocking at all. I don't doubt the streak will continue this year, as well!
