Dear 2015 Yuletide Writer...

This will be my tenth year participating; I love the experience of writing gifts for people, especially in small fandoms, and the whole atmosphere of fannish glee that surrounds the challenge. And I also love waiting up to read whatever's been written for me: it adds an extra sparkle to my holiday season. So. Dear Yuletide Author! You are automatically awesome for offering any of these fandoms, and I look forward to reading whatever you gift me with!
In general, I prefer something mainly focused on character interaction and/or plot, rather than PWP. But for theme: romance, humor, scifi, action, domestic moments, worldbuilding, even fusion stories (Pacific Rim or Sedoretu or Sentinel style, for example) if that's what floats your boat-- whatever you enjoy writing? I'll probably enjoy reading. I like people with layers, and watching them engage intelligently with each other is always a good time for me, whatever they're up to.
Though I do have a few no-go's, which I'd prefer you avoid (aka, not my cup of tea): incest, deliberate betrayal of trust between partners, non-consensual sex, and ABO or coffee shop/high school style AUs. Otherwise angst is OK, as long as it's resolved somehow (I prefer not to close a story feeling depressed; I am not a crueltide participant).
If you want to stalk me, this is my main journal; my fic index post is at DW, or you can find me at
jedibuttercup. I am an extremely eclectic writer, mostly gen but with the occasional het or slash and frequent crossovers, but don't worry about it; celebrate our mutual small fandom in whatever way pleases you, and it'll probably please me.
I hope I've given you some things to be thoughtful about, rather than boxing you in. Just have fun writing whatever you're writing, and I'll love you for whatever you give me. Thank you again!

- Fandom 1: Olympus Has Fallen (2013)
Characters: Lynn Jacobs, Ruth McMillan
I'd like to see these two women in positions of power, the head of the Secret Service and the Secretary of Defense, both of whom were caught up in the events of the movie in painful ways, interacting with each other. Before the movie or after; I don't care which, just give me strong women who build each other up.
Lynn lost dozens of her people in the attack, and Ruth barely survived it, and yet both of them were pretty much sidelined by the male characters' stories going on in the movie. So I wanted to know more about them. Over coffee, or in the course of their professional duties, as friends or more or just acquaintances bound together by extraordinary circumstance - it's up to you. (If you've seen my fic list, you know I've written Ben Asher/Mike Banning, but for this request it doesn't particularly matter to me whether they show up in the background as just President and agent, or something extra, or not at all. Trumbull is also awesome, if you want him to show up!) - Fandom 2: Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013)
Characters: Hansel, Gretel
Life on the road can't all be wacky adventures and killing witches. For this fandom, I'd like moments in the life fic; the domestic squabbles, rocks in the shoes, cooking the same dinner over the campfire for the nth time, teaching themselves things (particularly when the siblings are younger, so they don't get taken advantage of by adult strangers; but also post-movie would work too, trying to learn more about white witches and their own heritage to keep themselves safe); if post-movie, adjusting to sharing their camp with others; etc. But nothing more angsty than the canon. Just a comfortable, everyday life in a world where evil really does exist and tries to eat children, sort of fic.
I adore Hansel and Gretel both, and their reliance on each other; but would prefer you do not make their relationship sexual in any way. Include any of the other characters as you like, in any degree of ship or gen. - Fandom 3: Edge of Tomorrow (2014)
Characters: Rita Vrataski, William Cage
Some quirk of that last unexpected time loop means Rita remembers it, too.
Go with wherever that takes you - reaction fic; a personal-scale what-it-means-to-her story; or some larger actiony or politicky 'she won't let anyone else write the last chapter of her story in this war' sort of fic; anything you like. I asked for Cage as well because I liked him and appreciated the growth of his character, but I don't need him to be the plot leader; he got plenty of that in the movie. Whether his and Rita's interactions remain a gen in-the-same-weird-boat type of friendship or turn romantic is entirely up to you (and Rita). - Fandom 4: Furious 7
Characters: Brian O'Conner, Letty Ortiz
I am fairly enthusiastic about this very shiny movie series. The pretty people, the pretty cars, the chosen family themes, the mad skillz, the ridiculous lengths the characters all go to for each other, all of it. One of the areas I find very unexplored in the fandom, though, is the interaction between Brian and Letty. Please just give me something with these two front and center!
I love Letty's strength, and the fact that she's always been more than just Dom's girl; and the fact that Brian was in fact competent at his job, but always let his heart lead him. Give me lost scenes, or fallout from the events of Furious 7, or flashbacks to what it was like working together before FF4 with neither Mia nor Dom around, or domestic scenes of them and the Torettos all living together at 1327. Or AU it if that's what excites you! Antagonistic but respecting-each-other gen would be great; het would be awesome too provided they're not betraying their partners; or OT3-ing it up with either of the Torettos would also be pretty hot, provided the focus is still on the two of them. - Fandom 5: The Martian (2015)
Characters: Mark Watney
Just - more of Mark Watney being his irreverent self. More video logs on Mars, from the bits the movie didn't cover. What his training was like, before Ares 3. The months out on the Hermes with the crew before they reached Mars; the months returning on the Hermes after everything they've all been through. Reunions back on earth. Everything-hunger: experiencing the lack of touch/food/cleanliness/whatever or indulging in hedonism once it's available to him again, whichever. People being surprised he actually doesn't hate potatoes after everything! Any or all of these things - or canon-divergent AUs even, so long as nobody dies.
I just adored anything and everything about this movie from the setting, to the sciencing the shit out of the plot, to Mark's getting knocked down but always getting up again with a quip, everybody caring about each other, any and all aspects of it; it made me smile, and all my fic request really boils down to is giving me more smiles; so it's not like you can really go wrong here. :)
I hope I've given you some things to be thoughtful about, rather than boxing you in. Just have fun writing whatever you're writing, and I'll love you for whatever you give me. Thank you again!
