Part of my fascination with Salt, I suspect, was going in knowing the role had originally been written for Tom Cruise... and that they changed nothing but her name (well, and the gender of her spouse) when they cast Jolie instead. That feels more ground-breaking than it should, for some reason; I would have found that hypothetical male-lead version a lot less interesting.
